🔥 MUST READ

…because we want you to hear it from the experts themselves

Journalist and media consultant Nick Huber has a reminder for PRs who think having great journalist relationships is half the battle:

“If the story pitch doesn’t pass the ‘so what’ test, in any decent newsroom, it’ll be ignored.”

Knowing a journalist might help get your email opened, but it won’t get a weak story published. Before pitching, let’s ask ourselves the question the journalist will, so what? If you can’t quickly explain why their readers should care, the relationship won’t save it. And repeatedly sending weak pitches could make the next one an even harder sell.

🗞️ PR-Y STUFF

Here’s what we think you should see this week:

  • ‘Culture’ might be PR’s laziest buzzword – PRmoment says agencies need to stop treating “culture” as one big trend-led conversation. The UK is made up of hundreds of cultures shaped by geography, community, values and life stage, and good PR needs to understand those differences. read more
  • AI is making PR faster – AI can summarise research, analyse data and speed up campaign production, but PRmoment’s industry panel says the time saved shouldn’t simply mean producing more stuff. read more
  • Editors want ‘projects’ and PRs should take note – Journalist Rosie Taylor says there’s one word she keeps hearing from editors at the moment: “projects”. Editors are increasingly interested in elements such as video, case studies, podcasts, data or interactive tools, which creates an opportunity for PRs with ideas, experts, data and access that can help build something bigger.read more
  • GEO trackers need to tell PRs more than who’s winning – As AI visibility becomes another PR metric to watch, Muck Rack argues that GEO trackers need to go beyond giving brands a score. PR teams need to know why they’re appearing in AI answers, and which coverage, outlets and journalists are helping them get there. read more
  • Is local news actually hollowing out? – A six-year study of Reach plc found a sharp decline in original and genuinely local reporting across its regional titles. Publishers disagree on the causes, but there’s growing pressure to judge local journalism by what newsrooms actually produce, not simply whether a masthead still exists. read more
